A Health and Education Gateway at Nethermayne is being created just outside of Basildon town centre. This exciting area is undergoing substantial regeneration. The University Hospital has completed its £60 million, 14,000 square metre Cardiothoracic Centre. This will be the launch pad for new health sector growth in the District, creating 500 new jobs, including 30 consultants. There is a unique opportunity to exploit the growing relationship between the hospital and universities to position Basildon as a centre for medical research and development. With links to Anglia Ruskin and London universities, the Hospital and adjacent college have exciting potential to develop a landmark medical research facility.
The development of a state of the art new college campus in Basildon town centre will deliver life changing FE and HE provision with links to business that will serve the District. There are also proposals for a new academy in East Basildon as part of Chalvedon and Barstable schools, which will provide the families and children of the area with a specialised 11-14 campus, with progression to a 14-19 Academy. And the vocational Prospects College will continue to grow, offering practical apprenticeships.
Basildon is also home to a major sixth form college campus next to the Hospital, run by Thurrock and Basildon College.
